William W. Brandt |
William Brandt retired from the Michigan
State Police after 25 years of service, 15 of which were in the traffic
services area. At the time of his retirement, he held the rank of
Specialist Lieutenant assigned to the Traffic Services Section of the
Special Operations Division. He was in charge of the Traffic Crash
Reconstruction Unit, as well as overseeing the Traffic Control Order
process for the setting of speed limits and parking restrictions on
roadways outside of cities and villages statewide.
Mr. Brandt has been involved in traffic crash reconstruction since 1982
and has in excess of 2000 hours of traffic crash investigation and
reconstruction training. He was the first Michigan State Police
reconstruction specialist to become nationally accredited by the
Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction (ACTAR) in
1993. He has been a member of the International Association of Accident
Reconstruction Specialists (IAARS) since 1984, and an affiliate member of
the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) since 1986.
He was the primary instructor of basic traffic crash investigation at the
recruit level, and At-Scene Traffic Crash Investigation training at the
Michigan State Police Academy since 1992. He is an adjunct faculty member of the Institute of Police
Technology and Management (IPTM), University of North Florida.
Mr. Brandt spent 4 years conducting traffic investigations relating to
traffic control orders in the field prior to his becoming responsible for
overseeing the program. These investigations included working with local
county road commissions and the Michigan Department of Transportation
conducting site visits, speed studies and recommending safe and reasonable
speed limits and parking restrictions on roadways throughout the State of
Michigan. |
